Accessing the Internet

Are you unable to access the Internet? 

If you are able to connect and to check your email, BUT cannot access the Internet, then you need to check your TCP/IP settings.

To check the TCP/IP settings, perform these steps:  
(Example being shown as Win98)

1. Double-click Dial-Up Networking.

2. Right-click the RGV connection.

3. Select the Properties option. The General dialog appears:

4. Verify the phone number is correct.

5. Verify the Use area code and Dialing Properties box is not checked.

6. Click the Server Types tab. The Server Types dialog appears:

7. Verify that only the Enable software compression box and the TCP/IP box are checked.

8. Click the TCP/IP Settings button. The TCP/IP Settings dialog appears:

9. Verify that the Server assigned IP address button and the Server assigned name server addresses button are selected.

10. Click the OK button.

Helpful Tips
 
We do not support Windows 95. We suggest the user upgrade to a newer version of Windows.

NEVER ask a user for their password, and NEVER give out a user password.

In Dial-up, we only support one user per account being logged on at any given time.

We do not recommend that users use Netscape 6 at this time.

If the user is “dead in the water” (i.e. they cannot connect or do anything else), check the DNS settings. They should be disabled.
