RGV's telephone service represents
the first true advancement in telephony technology. The difference is in the method
of delivery of the calls. Every call ever placed over the
public telephone network has used switched circuits.
Because of companies like Rockbridge Global Village, that
is changing.
The old way of completing calls meant
that when a person in New York calls a person in Los
Angeles, the circuit was maintained, whether the parties
were speaking or silent the old circuit switched method
consumed more resources than the call actually required.
A call over the Rockbridge Global
Village network uses packet-switching technology. This
means that your words are encapsulated as data and sent to
their destination as they occur. Only the bandwidth
necessary to send the words is consumed, and periods of
silence like the pauses between statements consume no
bandwidth at all.
All this means that Rockbridge Global
Village can deliver your calls much more efficiently than
the public switched telephone network can, and as a result
we can deliver them less expensively. That is why we can
provide high-quality telephone services at prices that are
significantly less than you are currently paying.

The RGV Network:
Rockbridge Global Village maintains its own network, which currently
spans portions of Virginia and Tennessee. Your calls are transmitted and
managed over this network by our call routing and call management
equipment. Rockbridge Global Village is a CISCO™ Business Partner, and
our equipment and network are maintained by a staff of highly trained
engineers to ensure that your telephone service is of the highest
quality.
Calls
outside of the Rockbridge Global Village Network are
transferred to a growing network of packet switching
telephony providers and transported at competitive rates.
Rockbridge Global
Village's
network also handles international calls and IP
traffic.
The
most important equipment located in each POP is the
Gateway. The Gateway provides the interface between the IP
network and the PSTN. The Gateway converts the digital
voice traffic back to analog voice traffic. Each Gateway
consists of a router and a PRI interface to the PSTN.
Quality of Service:
(QOS) is a critical component of the Rockbridge Global Village network.
QOS is maintained by means of router configuration and traffic
monitoring. Calls can be routed to gateways with the optimum QOS. By
prioritizing call packets and maintaining best route logistics,
Rockbridge Global Village is able to lead the way towards service levels
and features never seen before in the legacy phone networks.
